Coding with 2nd grade!!
The second graders have been doing coding through the coursework in code.org. There are 18 lessons in Course 1, and at the end of the course they earn a Certificate of Completion for Course 1.
Some students have asked for the link to do their coding at home. Go to https://studio.code.org/sections/MCYSKF or to https://studio.code.org/join and type in your 6-letter section code: MCYSKF Of course they will need to log in with their name and password, which they have all been given (or you can email me and I will share it with you).
If your child chooses to do coding at home, please make sure that they are doing their own work. It is such a fun website that often older siblings like to do the activities, which will hinder the users progress when they have to go it alone. They can, however, do any activity in the Play Lab together!

2nd Graders get a chance to MOVE it! Move it!!
2nd graders completed an "unplugged" activity this month called, "Move It! Move It." In this activity they learned that in order to give clear instructions, they need a common language. Students took turns being the "controller," who created the program; and the "Walking Machine," or the computer who ran the program. During this process, they were able to relate algorithms as programs to their teammates - which they did quite successfully!
